Thursday finally brought some excitement to this spring transfer window with quarterbacks with plenty of starting experience looking to play elsewhere. A big reason I created The Gunslinger Buzz was because of the transfer portal and with how slow it’s been this week, I was close to shutting it all down and taking a job in construction. Thankfully, I can put the applications away and construction sites may continue running smoothly.

Miami shuts down Tyler Van Dyke transfer rumors
SCOOP: Miami Athletics
The Tyler Van Dyke (Stats)-to-Alabama speculation became a hot topic recently, but it looks like Miami will hold onto its starting quarterback heading into the fall. The Hurricanes need all the help they can get to get things rolling in Year 2 under Mario Cristobal. As for the Tide, it will be interesting to see what they do this offseason if an immediate-impact QB enters the portal to compete with Ty Simpson (Stats) and Jalen Milroe (Stats).
Cincinnati QB Ben Bryant enters transfer portal, open to returning
SCOOP: 247Sports’ Chris Hummer
Cincinnati’s returning starter has been battling with Arizona State transfer Emory Jones (Stats) this spring and is open to sticking with the Bearcats, according to The Athletic’s Justin Williams. If he leaves, this will be Ben Bryant’s (Stats) second time transferring away from Cincinnati as he spent time with Eastern Michigan before coming back. Both QBs have one more year of eligibility remaining.
UCF QB Thomas Castellanos enters transfer portal
SCOOP: Thomas Castellanos
Thomas Castellanos (Stats) played in five games as a true freshman with UCF in 2022, so he has three years of eligibility remaining along with a redshirt season if needed. Castellanos would’ve likely been the backup to John Rhys Plumlee (Stats) this fall, and the Knights lost Mikey Keene (Stats) to a transfer so they may be active in the portal looking for quarterback depth.

Rice QB TJ McMahon enters transfer portal
SCOOP: TJ McMahon
TJ McMahon (Stats) took over as Rice’s starting quarterback last fall, but it was unlikely he’d beat out West Virginia transfer JT Daniels (Stats) for QB1 in 2023. McMahon appears to have one year of eligibility remaining at his next stop.
