COLLEGE FOOTBALL QB REPORT

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said he’d like to have a starting QB decision made midway through fall camp during Big Ten Media Days. Kyle McCord (Stats) and Devin Brown (Stats) are the two competitors in the battle to replace CJ Stroud (Stats), and it’s tough to get a read on who is the frontrunner at this point. McCord has the edge in experience, appearing in 12 games over the last two seasons, while Brown played just 15 snaps as a true freshman in 2022. This will be the most intriguing quarterback battle in the country to watch over the next few weeks.

Notre Dame will host 2025 4-star QB Deuce Knight (MS) today, according to his Twitter account. Knight has received a ton of interest from some of the top programs in the country, and the Irish fit that criteria. He picked up a Notre Dame offer in March and visited South Bend a few weeks later. Knight is one of the most sought-after quarterback prospects in the 2025 class, and it’ll be interesting to see how his recruitment plays out.

Ole Miss sent a scholarship offer to Illinois 2024 3-star QB Trey Petty (MS), according to his Twitter account. Petty committed to the Fighting Illini in May following an official visit, but it’ll be interesting to see if an in-state offer will lead to a change of plans. Last month, the Rebels lost a commitment from Demond Williams Jr. (AZ), who appears to be in a good position to land at Arizona, but it left Ole Miss without a 2024 quarterback. It’ll be interesting to see if Petty takes a visit to Oxford soon.

DEPTH CHART & INJURY REPORT

Penn State head coach James Franklin said the Nittany Lions are still in the competition phase at the starting quarterback spot during Big Ten Media Days. It would be a stunner if former 5-star QB Drew Allar (Stats) is not the Week 1 starting quarterback, but Franklin has been consistent in saying Beau Pribula (Stats) has an opportunity to win this battle. Allar appeared in 10 games as a true freshman backup to Sean Clifford in 2022, while Pribula did not play a snap. Franklin said he will not rush a decision or reveal a timeline but said the sooner the better.
