COLLEGE FOOTBALL QB REPORT
Quarterback Central | Teams | Players
Penn State head coach James Franklin did not announce a starting QB, according to Tyler Millen. Franklin has consistently said this is a competition between Drew Allar (Stats) and Beau Pribula (Stats) since the spring. It sounded ridiculous then, and it sounds ridiculous now. Allar was a 5-star prospect, appeared in 10 games as a true freshman in 2022 and reportedly had a great camp. It’d be shocking if he isn’t starting Saturday night against West Virginia.
Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables said Dillon Gabriel (Stats) will not be on the team next season, according to Sooner Scoop’s Josh McCuistion. This was probably the most-likely scenario, but it’s interesting considering Gabriel does have an extra year of eligibility if he’d like to play another college football season in 2024. However, the coaching staff must be confident in the development of 5-star true freshman Jackson Arnold (Stats), who would be in line to start next year.
Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart (Stats) said he has not been told who the starter will be for Saturday’s season opener, according to Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal’s Michael Katz. I’ve written this same update several times, but it’s one of the most interesting undecided quarterback battles at this point especially considering this is Spencer Sanders’ (Stats) final year of eligibility. Earlier this week, head coach Lane Kiffin said he has not decided who will get the start on Saturday against Mercer. Dart received most of the first-team reps during camp, but both may play considering this game should be decided by halftime.
DEPTH CHART & INJURY REPORT
Week 1 College football QB depth charts & injuries
Kansas head coach Lance Leipold said QB Jalon Daniels (Stats) is expected to start Friday night against Missouri State, according to Wave the Wheat’s Matt Tait. Daniels missed practice time with back tightness and while it doesn’t appear this will keep him out of any game time at this point, it’s a bit of a concern heading into the season. Wins were tough to come by when Daniels went down with an injury in 2022 despite Jason Bean (Stats) stepping in to put up solid numbers.
