COLLEGE FOOTBALL QB REPORT
Quarterback Central | Teams | Players
Oklahoma State QB Alan Bowman (Stats) took the first snaps in the team’s first spring practice, according to 247Sports’ McClain Baxley. Mike Gundy hasn’t announced a starting quarterback, but Bowman appears to have the edge over Garret Rangel (Stats) early in fall camp. Bowman saw very limited game opportunities over the last two seasons at Michigan after earning a starting role at Texas Tech.
Stanford opened four-way quarterback competition, head coach Troy Taylor said. Taylor said returners Ari Patu (Stats) and Ashton Daniels (Stats) will split reps with Syracuse transfer Justin Lamson (Stats) with true freshman Myles Jackson (Stats) taking some snaps as well. This competition could go down to the wire, and I’ll give Patu and Lamson the upper hand in this QB battle with a slight edge for Patu to open Week 1 as the starting quarterback.
Ole Miss received a crystal ball prediction to get a commitment from 2024 4-star QB Trever Jackson (FL) by 247Sports’ David Johnson. Jackson is the final uncommitted blue-chip quarterback in the 2024 recruiting class, and it’ll be interesting to see how quickly a decision may come. He’s coming off a weekend visit to see Maryland, which just added a commitment from 2024 3-star Khristian Martin (VA) on Sunday, though I’m sure they’d love to still add Jackson. He recently teased dropping his top six schools soon.
DEPTH CHART & INJURY REPORT
Penn State QB Drew Allar (Stats) was the first quarterback during drills during the first practice of preseason camp, according to 247Sports’ Tyler Donohue. Head coach James Franklin continues to say there’s an open competition between Allar and Beau Pribula (Stats) at the starting quarterback position, but it’s pretty clear how this competition will end barring an injury. Allar was a 5-star prospect out of the 2022 class and appeared in 10 games as a true freshman.
