COLLEGE FOOTBALL QB REPORT

Quarterback Central | Teams | Players

Iowa State starting QB Hunter Dekkers (Stats) will miss fall camp amid a gambling scandal, according to Keith Murphy. Dekkers was accused of placing bets on 26 Cyclones sporting events including a 2021 football game, which he did not play in. The NCAA has a rule in place where athletes permanently lose eligibility for betting, so it’ll be interesting to see how this plays out. As for 2023, the competition will feature Rocco Becht (Stats), true freshman JJ Kohl (Stats) and junior college transfer Tanner Hughes (Stats) with Becht as the likely favorite to start Week 1.

Oklahoma flipped 2024 3-star QB Brendan Zurbrugg’s commitment from Northwestern, according to his Twitter post. Zurbrugg had been committed to the Wildcats for less than a month and originally committed to Syracuse briefly. Anything can happen with a coaching change, and Northwestern will look for a new quarterback in this cycle. Zurbrugg joins 4-star Michael Hawkins (TX) as a QBs committed to the Sooners’ 2024 recruiting class.

Houston received a commitment from 2025 3-star QB Jamison Kitna (OH), he announced on Twitter. Kitna received offers from several Power 5 programs before picking the Cougars on Tuesday. Houston got in on Kitna early as the first team to send an offer and the first to have him on campus for a visit. While the Cougars got a head start on their 2025 recruiting cycle, they’re currently without a 2024 quarterback commitment.

DEPTH CHART & INJURY REPORT

Week 1 College football QB depth charts & injuries

Florida QBs Graham Mertz (Stats) and Jack Miller III (Stats) are splitting reps during practice, according to 247Sports’ Jacob Rudner. The quicker Mertz can separate himself, the more at ease the fan base will feel because it’d still be fairly surprising if Miller is the Week 1 starter. Mertz has a ton more college football experience with three years as the Wisconsin starting quarterback, while Miller has seen minimal opportunities.
