Get yourselves ready for what should be a wild weekend of college football news. The importance of spring games is a bit exaggerated, but 27 of them will be televised this weekend, and we’re hours away from the transfer portal re-opening. It’s unclear how busy the transfer QB market will be this spring, but I’m sure we’ll be reacting to some surprising news in Monday’s edition of The Gunslinger Buzz Daily.

Also if you’re interested in such nerdy recruiting things, the NCAA passed a rule yesterday where recruits can make as many official visits as they’d like. Previously, prospects could see no more than five schools on official visits.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL QB REPORT

Florida intends to add transfer QB
SCOOP: OutKick’s Trey Wallace
Florida held its spring game Thursday night to give us a look at the quarterback competition between Wisconsin transfer Graham Mertz (Stats) and Jack Miller III (Stats). Neither quarterback stood out this spring, and head coach Billy Napier said the process of going after a QB is underway during the post-spring game press conference. It’s unclear whether another quarterback would be a depth addition or if the Gators are looking for a potential starter this fall.

Northwestern QB Brendan Sullivan 100% healthy, Ryan Hilinski will miss spring practice
SCOOP: Wildcat Report’s Louie Vaccher
Brendan Sullivan (Stats) said he broke his hand and sternum in addition to battling a knee injury last season, but he’s back to challenge for the Northwestern starting quarterback spot. Last year’s opening week starter Ryan Hilinski (Stats) will be unavailable the entire spring as he recovers from a knee injury that ended his 2022 season. Jack Lausch (Stats) and walk-on Cole Freeman (Stats) are the only other two healthy quarterbacks this spring.

2024 3-star QB Karson Gordon ready to commit
SCOOP: Karson Gordon
Karson Gordon is expected to reveal a decision on Saturday at 5 p.m. ET, and the Texas prospect added recent offers from Army and Air Force. Gordon hasn’t released a list of finalists, though he has interest from plenty of FBS and FCS programs heading into commitment day.

Baseball career won’t impact Virginia QB Jay Woolfolk in QB battle
SCOOP: Richmond-Times Dispatch’s Mike Barber
Virginia quarterback Jay Woolfolk (Stats) is in the middle of an even quarterback competition with Monmouth transfer Tony Muskett (Stats). With Woolfolk also participating on the Cavaliers’ baseball team, head coach Tony Elliott confirmed this QB battle will be decided during fall camp.
