A magical experience': Hugh Freeze eager for Auburn debut - Auburn University Athletics

I hope you enjoyed the new look of the Gunslinger Buzz Daily that debuted yesterday, and the numbers suggest you’re into it. Email open rate is one of the top metrics to track according to the smart people at Substack, and our open rates have always been high compared to the average, so thank you much.

I also went down a rabbit hole of newsletter stats and while California is our most popular state as far as where subscribers come from, Florida has been coming in hard over the last 30 days and is in position to take the top spot very soon. Also, shoutout to our subscribers from Canada, United Kingdom, Sweden and Vietnam.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL QB REPORT

Quarterback Central | Teams | Players

Tennessee is the favorite for 2024 4-star Jake Merklinger
SCOOP: 247Spors’ Steve Wiltfong | Rivals’ Nick Harris | On3’s Chad Simmons
All of the three recruiting sites we pay attention to put in predictions for Tennessee to add a 2024 QB with Jake Merklinger (GA). When that happens, don’t be surprised if a commitment comes soon. Merklinger visited the Vols over the weekend and previously said he’d love to announce a decision this spring. After a strong Year 2, the Josh Heupel era couldn’t be going much better especially after signing 2023 5-star Nico Iamaleava (Stats).

Auburn QB competition expected to continue into the fall
SCOOP: AL.com’s Tom Green
Head coach Hugh Freeze is deciding between Holden Geriner (Stats), Robby Ashford (Stats) and TJ Finley (Stats) to be the Week 1 starter. According to the report, Ashford has been limited in practice with a shoulder injury, allowing extra reps for Geriner, who played just one game as a true freshman last fall. Ashford was the main starter for Auburn last season, but it’s tough to get a read on who has the edge at this point. Depending on who comes available, the Tigers could become active in the QB market when the second transfer portal window opens in a few weeks.

Ohio State will host 2024 4-star Prentiss Air Noland
SCOOP: 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong
Prentiss Air Noland (GA) hasn’t visited Ohio State despite listing the Buckeyes in his top seven, which also included Alabama, Clemson, Arkansas, Miami, Texas A&M and Oregon. He announced a commitment date of April 8, but there’s no clear frontrunner with decision day coming soon. The Buckeyes don’t have a 2024 quarterback committed after signing 2023 4-star Lincoln Kienholz (Stats).
