COLLEGE FOOTBALL QB REPORT

Florida head coach Billy Napier said QB Graham Mertz (Stats) is the Gators’ starting quarterback, according to Gators Online’s Nick de la Torre. Mertz has been the favorite to land the starting QB spot since transferring from Wisconsin this offseason, and it’s official. His biggest challenger had been Jack Miller III (Stats), who missed Sunday’s practice to rest his throwing arm. Max Brown (Stats) took his spot as the backup, and the No. 2 role could be one to watch with reports claiming Brown has been impressive during training camp.
Alabama QBs Ty Simpson (Stats) and Jalen Milroe (Stats) separated themselves from Notre Dame transfer Tyler Buchner (Stats), according to Bama247’s John Talty. According to the report, Milroe is in the lead to get the starting spot Week 1 and has consistently received the first reps at quarterback. The Crimson Tide came into training camp with one of the most intriguing QB battles to watch, and it might be down to two less than three weeks before their season opener against Middle Tennessee.
Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said extending the QB battle into the season is not ideal but will let that happen if necessary. Things seem pretty even through the first portion of training camp in the competition between Kyle McCord (Stats) and Devin Brown (Stats). With a few weeks to go before the season opener, it still seems unlikely the Buckeyes will roll into the season opener without a QB1 decision made. Regardless, it’ll be entertaining to watch this play out without a clear frontrunner for the starting quarterback role.
DEPTH CHART & INJURY REPORT

It would be a shock if Carson Beck (Stats) did not open the season as the Georgia starting quarterback, a source told Dawgs247’s Jordan D. Hill. This has been the expected outcome since the Bulldogs exited spring practice, but head coach Kirby Smart hasn’t felt a need to announce a starter at this point. Brock Vandagriff (Stats) will likely open as the backup QB with Gunner Stockton (Stats) behind him.
