COLLEGE FOOTBALL QB REPORT

Quarterback Central | Teams | Players

UPDATE: Texas QB Quinn Ewers (Stats) suffered an AC joint sprain on his throwing shoulder with optimism he will play again this season, according to Orange Bloods’ Anwar Richardson. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said QB Quinn Ewers tried to play through his shoulder injury but was replaced by Maalik Murphy (Stats) to finish the game. Ewers was seen with his throwing arm in a sling following the game, and Sarkisian did not have much of an injury update afterward other than saying it’s a shoulder injury, and he’ll learn more tomorrow. If he’s out, Murphy would likely start Saturday’s home game vs. BYU with Arch Manning (Stats) as the backup.

Miami head coach Mario Cristobal said he feels good about QB Tyler Van Dyke (Stats) being available on Saturday vs. Virginia after missing the 28-20 double-overtime win over Clemson. He said the team did not know till late in the week that Van Dyke would be unavailable with an injury to his throwing hand, and true freshman QB Emory Williams (Stats) played every snap of his first career start. The plan has been to redshirt Williams, and this was his fourth game, meaning he will not be able to redshirt if he plays another snap this season. He’s clearly the No. 2 option over Jacurri Brown (Stats), who has not played a game this season and is also looking to redshirt.

Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze said everything is up for evaluation offensively but said the quarterback rotation had nothing to do with Saturday’s 28-21 home loss vs. Ole Miss. Robby Ashford (Stats) started at quarterback for the first time this season, though Payton Thorne (Stats) played the majority of snaps. Third-string quarterback Holden Geriner (Stats) played one snap on a double-pass trick play that resulted in a big loss of yards. Freeze also said it would be nice to have one quarterback getting all the snaps. It seems like the QB rotation will continue on Saturday vs. Mississippi State.

DEPTH CHART & INJURY REPORT

Coastal Carolina QB Grayson McCall (Stats) was released from the hospital on Sunday, according to the team Twitter account. He was alert and conscious with movement in all extremities. McCall suffered a scary injury during Saturday’s 27-17 road win over Arkansas State and left the stadium in an ambulance. Jarrett Guest (Stats) replaced him as the Chanticleers prepare for a home matchup with Marshall on Saturday.
