MY TOP THREE
Michigan QB JJ McCarthy (stats) will make an NFL Draft decision within the next week, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported before Monday’s national title. NFL evaluators expect him to declare, according to the report. The Wolverines have not been active in the transfer quarterback market, and the returning options include Alex Orji (stats), who has been playing regular snaps as a rushing threat, along with Davis Warren (stats), Jayden Denegal (stats) and incoming 4-star true freshman Jadyn Davis.
2025 5-star QB Bryce Underwood (MI) committed to LSU. The top-rated quarterback in the class picked the Tigers over Alabama, Colorado, Florida State, Oregon and Penn State, though it has been considered an LSU vs. in-state Michigan battle for months. Underwood will join a future quarterback room that just signed 4-star Colin Hurley from its 2024 class.
Albany (FCS) transfer QB Reese Poffenbarger committed to Miami with two years of eligibility left. After starting his career with Old Dominion, he became a two-year starter with the Great Danes and could open 2024 as the Hurricanes’ QB1 with Emory Williams (stats) and Jacurri Brown (stats) in the mix. Miami has been active in the transfer QB market and looked at as the favorite for Maryland transfer Taulia Tagovailoa (stats) if the NCAA gives him another year of eligibility.

TRANSFER PORTAL REPORT (18)
Liberty transfer QB Reese Mooney (stats) told me he’ll commit over the next couple days with 2-3 schools in the mix. He entered the portal after Flames’ starter Kaidon Salter (stats) withdrew with four years of eligibility remaining. Mooney added he received over 25 offers within the past week including Minnesota, Florida, Duke, Arkansas State and Jacksonville State.
