FCS Depth Charts & Injuries Headlines

Rhode Island QB Tyler Budge completed 13-of-29 passes for 128 yards and a TD with 51 rushing yards on 5 attempts in Friday’s 34-7 win over Merrimack. He was listed as the backup on the depth chart behind Devin Farrell, who did not play due to injury. Alex McClelland is the third string, followed by Ben Roden and Elliot Newcomb. Rhode Island will play Temple on Saturday. Injury Report: Devin Farrell did not suit up for Week 0 with a lower body injury. He underwent offseason surgery on his left foot.

Butler QB Gabe Passini completed 14-of-23 passes for 145 yards with a TD in Saturday’s 27-23 win over Georgetown (NAIA). He added 176 rushing yards and a TD on 23 attempts. Passini was listed as the backup on the depth chart behind an injured Reagan Andrew, who appeared in the game and is the starter when fully healthy. Jarrin Alley is next in line, followed by Tanner Huckfelt and Christian Kramer. Butler will play Montana State on Saturday. Injury Report: Reagan Andrew will be available this week, a team source told me. He’s not at 100% and is working his way back from an injury.

Weber State QB Devin Brown completed 10-of-20 passes for 179 yards with 2 TDs and an INT in Friday’s 30-29 win over Northern Colorado. He added 34 rushing yards on 5 attempts but exited with an injury. Nate Dahle is listed as the backup on the depth chart and took over, completing 6-of-8 passes for 54 yards. Early in fall camp, a team source told me Kingston Tisdell is in the top three the third string with Cash McCollum and DJ Duran behind him. Weber State will play Southern Utah on Saturday. Injury Report: Devin Brown dislocated his right pinkie finger, head coach Eric Kjar said. It’s unclear whether he’ll miss any games.

Today’s article features college football team-by-team breakdowns for every FBS and FCS quarterback room with the latest depth chart notes and injury report updates. Info comes from beat writers, sports information directors, press conferences, team sites, social media and inside sources.

Over the weekend, Class of 2022 prospects who never redshirted were ruled eligible to play this season. This comes a few weeks before the start of the season, and those players are not allowed to transfer unless they entered the portal in January. After going through each FBS roster, I found that Drew Allar (Penn State), Thomas Castellanos (Florida State) and EJ Warner (Fresno State) are the only quarterbacks who fit this criteria.

The FBS and FCS are in a recruiting dead period through the end of August.

FBS Postseason

All 138 FBS programs are eligible to compete in the postseason with 82 spots to be filled. The final day of the regular season is on Nov. 28, 2026 with the College Football Playoff and bowl games expected to be announced on Dec. 6, 2026.

The CFP remains at 12 teams and runs from Dec. 18, 2026 through the national championship on Jan. 25, 2027. Traditional bowl season includes 35 games and runs from Dec. 15, 2026 through Jan. 2, 2027.

Lastly, the Army-Navy Game will be played on Dec. 12, 2026.

College Football Playoff

Automatic bids go to the SEC, Big Ten, ACC and Big 12 champions, in addition to the highest-ranked team from the Pac-12, American, Mountain West, Sun Belt, MAC and Conference USA conferences. Also, Notre Dame receives an automatic bid if it’s ranked inside the top 12 of the final CFP rankings. The remaining spots are filled by at-large teams selected by the CFP Selection Committee, regardless of conference.

Keep in mind, bowl-eligible teams may decide to opt out of postseason play for a variety of reasons.

The FCS Playoffs format remains at 24 teams and runs from Nov. 28, 2026 through the national championship on Jan. 4, 2027. The MEAC and SWAC do not compete in the FCS Playoffs, and those conference champions compete in the Celebration Bowl instead on Dec. 12, 2026.

Finally, Alabama State will play Tuskegee (D2) in the Turkey Day Classic on Nov. 26, 2026. The Bayou Classic will feature Grambling State and Southern for the Bayou Classic on Nov. 28, 2026.

The Protect College Sports Act took the next step after getting passed by the Senate Commerce Committee on Thursday. If you’re not familiar with this, players would be limited to one free transfer with a five-year eligibility clock if it passes, among other things like coaches being prevented from leaving midseason and more. Also, we’re in an FBS and FCS quiet period on the recruiting calendar.
